U.S. Senate to Resume Discussion on Cryptocurrency Market Structure Bill Today

2026-02-04 15:15

Odaily News: U.S. Senate Democrats plan to hold a meeting later today local time to resume discussions on the cryptocurrency market structure bill. This will be one of the most critical meetings since the Senate Banking Committee postponed the bill's review last month. Pro-crypto minority members will gather to discuss key issues including ethics and decentralized finance (DeFi) and to determine their stance. The meeting comes as Democratic lawmakers and their staff have engaged in multiple consultations with cryptocurrency industry representatives in the weeks following the review delay. It remains unclear whether the agenda includes the issue of stablecoin yields, which abruptly halted the rate hike process in January. Both sides described Monday's meeting at the White House on cryptocurrency and banking regarding this issue as "constructive." Patrick Witt, Executive Director of the White House Cryptocurrency Council, called the meeting "fact-based and solution-focused" and expressed confidence that the issue would ultimately be resolved.
