Trump Announces Nomination of Brett Matsumoto as New Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics

2026-01-31 01:30

Odaily According to a post by U.S. President Trump on a social media platform, he stated that for years, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has been managed by "weak and incompetent individuals," and its "extremely inaccurate" data has consistently misled American businesses, policymakers, and families. Consequently, he dismissed the former commissioner. Trump said, "I am pleased to nominate the highly talented Brett Matsumoto as the new commissioner." Matsumoto previously served as a senior research economist at the bureau and is currently a senior economist on Trump's Council of Economic Advisers. Trump believes Matsumoto has the capability to "swiftly resolve" the long-standing issues at the Bureau of Labor Statistics on behalf of the American people, praising him as an "outstanding, reliable, and trustworthy economist" who will undoubtedly restore the bureau to its "former glory."
