Democratic Senators Call for Halt to Warsh Nomination Until Justice Department Concludes Investigation into Current Chair Powell

Odaily News Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed multiple concerns on Friday regarding Trump's decision to nominate Warsh. As the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee (and the first stop in Warsh's nomination confirmation process), Warren questioned whether Warsh could lead the Federal Reserve without being influenced by the White House. "Trump has stated that anyone who disagrees with him cannot be the Fed Chair," Warren said in a statement. "Former Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh—who was more concerned with helping Wall Street than the millions of unemployed Americans after the 2008 financial crisis—has clearly passed the loyalty test." Warren called on Republicans to halt the advancement of Warsh's nomination until the Justice Department concludes its investigation into current Chair Powell. "Any Republican who claims to care about the Fed's independence should refuse to advance this nomination until Trump stops his 'political witch hunt' against the current Fed Chair and Governor Lisa Cook," she stated.
