Fed's Top Contender Rick Rieder Has Long Funded Trump's Political Opponents
Odaily News BlackRock executive Rick Rieder is currently one of the leading candidates to take over the Federal Reserve. However, his past funding of Trump's primary political opponents and top Democratic figures could become a potential obstacle for Trump, who values "loyalty" in his subordinates, in appointing him to lead the Fed. According to Polymarket data, Rick Rieder has a 32% probability of being nominated by Trump.
Federal Election Commission (FEC) data shows that Rick Rieder has a history of bipartisan donations. In 2020, he funded Democrats Pete Buttigieg and Cory Booker, and in 2016, he supported Jeb Bush. Importantly, he has never provided financial support to Trump during the 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential elections.
FEC records indicate that Rick Rieder's donation recipients also include top Democrats such as Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, and Mark Warner, as well as Republican establishment figures like Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. His political donation history began in 2005, with the largest contribution since the 2020 election being a $15,825 donation to a group supporting Nikki Haley in December 2023.
Rick Rieder and BlackRock representatives declined to comment. (Jin10)
