Analysis: Ethereum Mainnet Activity Surpasses Multiple L2s, Possibly Linked to Rise of Address Poisoning Attacks
Odaily News According to data, driven by a decline in transaction fees, Ethereum's average daily active addresses rebounded in January and once exceeded those of major Layer 2 networks. According to Token Terminal statistics, Ethereum's daily active addresses approached 1 million this month and briefly surged to around 1.3 million on January 16th before falling back to approximately 950,000. However, analysts warn that the active address data may be overestimated. Security researcher Andrey Sergeenkov pointed out that the address growth in January is highly correlated with attacks such as Address Poisoning. Attackers send extremely small stablecoin transfers to a large number of wallets, causing fake addresses to appear in victims' transaction histories, thereby tricking users into sending funds to the wrong address. Overall, there are indeed signs of recovery in Ethereum mainnet activity, but the short-term data is mixed with a significant amount of non-genuine demand. The "quality of recovery" on-chain still requires further observation. (CoinDesk)
