Cybersecurity Engineer Accused of Stealing Funds from Gambling Website, Police from Two Regions Seize 183 Bitcoins

Odaily News: Cybersecurity engineer Li Dong is accused of exploiting a program vulnerability to steal the personal information of over 1.84 million Chinese citizens from the overseas gambling website "Kaiyun Sports". He allegedly selected high-commission agent accounts and used technical means to steal a total of over 35.5 million yuan in agent commission funds. The Changge City People's Procuratorate in Henan Province has prosecuted him on charges of theft and infringing on citizens' personal information.

Previously, police from Zhangjiajie, Hunan, and Changge, Henan, had filed cases against Li Dong on suspicion of operating a gambling establishment. The Zhangjiajie police seized 103 of his Bitcoins, which were liquidated for over 49.61 million yuan. The Henan police seized 80 of his Bitcoins, with a market value exceeding 40 million yuan. The case is currently being tried in the Changge City Court. The defense lawyer has entered a plea of not guilty, and the court will schedule another hearing at a later date. (The Paper)
