Xiamen Procuratorate Reports: Company Employee Sentenced for Embezzling 1.53 Million Yuan to Speculate on BTC and Other Virtual Currencies, Suffering Total Losses

2026-01-19 06:20

According to a disclosure by the Xiamen Procuratorate's official WeChat account, a salesperson from a publishing company in Fujian province, due to incurring massive debts from virtual currency investments, began committing acts of job-related embezzlement starting in the spring of 2024. The employee unauthorizedly replaced the company's official payment QR code with their personal WeChat payment QR code and bank card account, directing customers to transfer textbook subscription fees directly into their personal account.

The report indicates that from spring 2024 to spring 2025, the employee cumulatively misappropriated over 1.53 million yuan of company funds and invested all the related funds into trading virtual currencies such as Bitcoin, attempting to profit through speculation, but ultimately suffered total losses of the capital. The Tong'an District People's Procuratorate has prosecuted the individual for the crime of job-related embezzlement, and the court has sentenced them to two years and three months of fixed-term imprisonment, along with a fine.
