Ethereum Network Sees Record High in New Wallet Creation, Non-Empty Addresses Reach 172.9 Million

2026-01-14 06:29

Odaily News According to Santiment data, the number of new wallets created on the Ethereum network hit a record high last week. Over the past week, an average of approximately 327,000 new wallets were created daily, with a single-day peak exceeding 393,000. The total number of non-empty Ethereum wallets also reached a historical peak of 172.9 million.

Analysis suggests this surge is driven by multiple factors: the Fusaka upgrade implemented in December last year optimized on-chain data processing and reduced the cost for Layer 2 networks to post data back to the mainnet, making interactions smoother and fees lower; market sentiment shifted from negative to neutral/positive since mid-December, attracting more retail users; increased exploration interest in applications like DeFi and NFTs towards the year-end, along with a surge in payment and settlement activities using stablecoins on Ethereum, also brought substantial financial demand. Furthermore, Nansen data shows that over half of the Ethereum supply is currently staked, with the ETH2 Beacon Deposit contract holding over 77 million ETH, while Binance and Coinbase hold approximately 4 million and 2.3 million ETH respectively on behalf of users.
