Meta Shifts Resources from Metaverse to AI Devices
Odaily News: Meta Platforms (META.O) announced layoffs of over 1,000 employees in its Reality Labs division. This move is part of the company's strategy to shift resources from virtual reality (VR) and metaverse products towards artificial intelligence (AI) wearables and smartphone features. According to an internal notice from Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth, employees will begin receiving layoff notifications starting Tuesday morning. As previously reported by foreign media, these layoffs will affect approximately 10% of Reality Labs' roughly 15,000 employees. A Meta spokesperson stated: "We mentioned last month that we would shift some investments from the metaverse to wearables. These layoffs are part of that strategy, and we plan to reinvest the saved resources to support the growth of our wearable business this year." (Jin10)
