Heads of major central banks worldwide issued a joint statement on Tuesday in support of Federal Reserve Chairman Powell
Odaily News: Heads of major central banks worldwide issued a joint statement on Tuesday in support of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, following threats from the Trump administration to bring criminal charges against him. In the statement, the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, and nine other central bank governors stated: "We stand in full solidarity with the Federal Reserve System and its Chairman, Jerome Powell." They added: "Central bank independence is the cornerstone of maintaining price, financial, and economic stability, which is in the interest of the people we serve." The U.S. government's criminal investigation nominally involves the renovation of the Federal Reserve headquarters, but Powell called it a "pretext" aimed at giving the President influence over interest rates.
