Pumpfun Co-founder: Creator Fee Mechanism Needs Adjustment, Future to Be Decided by Traders

2026-01-10 00:12

Odaily News Pumpfun, a Solana Meme coin launch platform, co-founder posted stating that the current creator fee mechanism requires adjustment, and the platform will undergo a series of structural changes in the future.

He recalled that the Dynamic Fees V1 launched several months ago was initially intended to incentivize high-quality project teams to deploy tokens on the platform and drive project development through creator fees. The mechanism showed significant short-term effects after its launch, with a large number of creators who had not previously engaged with crypto applications starting to issue tokens and livestream on the platform, rapidly boosting on-chain activity. However, he pointed out that this growth model is unsustainable and has also exposed critical internal issues within the platform.

He stated that creator fees are beneficial for "project-type tokens" with clear teams and goals but have not substantially changed the behavior of ordinary Meme coin deployers. Instead, they may lead to incentive misalignment, making users more inclined towards low-risk token issuance behaviors rather than high-risk trading activities that are more crucial to the platform's ecosystem. Pumpfun believes that traders are the core of the platform, and successful tokens are more likely to emerge in environments where traders actively participate, provide liquidity, and take on risks.

Furthermore, he noted that the existing creator fees lack sufficient functionality and good user experience at the usage level, limiting their potential role in narrative expansion and community building.

Overall, Pumpfun believes that creator fees remain an important tool for incentivizing high-quality projects but need optimization in terms of mechanism and user experience. At the same time, not all tokens require creator fees. In the future, the platform will adopt a more market-driven approach, allowing traders to decide whether a specific token should have creator fees and how those fees should be utilized. He mentioned that related adjustments are still underway, and more information regarding platform development and Pumpfun's future direction will be announced subsequently. He also expressed anticipation for the ecosystem's evolution in 2026.
