Trump: I Don't Need International Law

2026-01-08 23:29

Odaily News According to a report, US President Trump declared on Wednesday evening that, as Commander-in-Chief, his authority is limited only by his "own moral code" and dismissed international law and other checks and balances that restrict his ability to use military force, launch strikes, invasions, or exert pressure on countries worldwide. In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, when asked if his global power was subject to any constraints, Trump replied, "Yes, there is one thing for sure. That is my own moral code and my personal will. That is the only thing that can stop me." "I don't need international law," he added. "I have no intention of harming anyone." When pressed further on whether his administration needed to adhere to international law, Mr. Trump responded, "Of course I will comply." However, he made it clear that he would be the ultimate arbiter when such constraints applied to the United States. He stated, "It depends on what your definition of international law is."
