Bitcoin Core developers: Quantum computers will not revolutionize Bitcoin in the short term; protocol modifications will take 5 to 10 years.

2025-12-22 03:04

According to Odaily Planet Daily, Jameson Lopp, a Bitcoin Core developer and co-founder of Casa, responded to the threat of quantum attacks, stating that quantum computers will not disrupt Bitcoin in the short term. Lopp pointed out that the Bitcoin development team will continue to monitor developments, but thoughtful modifications to the protocol and unprecedented fund migrations could take 5 to 10 years.

Previously, Nic Carter published an article claiming that quantum computing was only an engineering challenge away from cracking Bitcoin, putting 1.7 million Bitcoins at risk of attack. In response, Blockstream CEO Adam Back criticized Nic Carter for exaggerating concerns about the threat posed by quantum computing to Bitcoin. Bitcoin expert Pledditor stated that Nic Carter, through his fund, invested in startups selling quantum-resistant tools, and his remarks were intended to create anxiety.
