The race for the Federal Reserve chairmanship is heating up. According to the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, US President Trump will interview Wall Street Chairman Walsh on Wednesday. Walsh, along with White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, is at the top of his consideration list. Hassett's close relationship with Trump has raised questions about his autonomy. Walsh, appointed by Trump and confirmed by the Senate to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in late 2020, has become one of the most vocal advocates for interest rate cuts within the Fed this year. The Fed has cut rates by 25 basis points in each of its last three meetings. Walsh previously voted against a rate cut in July, but policymakers chose to keep rates unchanged at that time. (Jinshi)
