EU law enforcement agencies shut down cryptocurrency mixing platform Cryptomixer
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Europol, the European Union's (EU) law enforcement agency, said on Monday that a coordinated law enforcement operation in Zurich has successfully dismantled Cryptomixer, a cryptocurrency mixing service allegedly used by cybercriminals to launder illicit Bitcoin.
The raid, conducted from November 24 to 28, was a joint operation by Swiss and German police in cooperation with Europol. The operation resulted in the seizure of three servers, the Cryptomixer.io domain, over €25 million (approximately US$29 million) worth of Bitcoin, and over 12 terabytes of data.
Officials stated that Cryptomixer has assisted in laundering over €1.3 billion worth of Bitcoin since 2016. Its long settlement windows and randomized fund allocation patterns make it an ideal tool for concealing the proceeds of crime.
