Odaily Planet Daily reported on Wednesday that the ADP employment report showed a significant rebound in U.S. private sector employment in October. The figure for a private sector job loss was revised upwards to a decrease of 29,000 in September, but increased by 42,000 in October. ADP's monthly estimates have historically differed from official employment data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Although the BLS's closely watched employment report was delayed again due to the longest government shutdown in history, economists cautioned against interpreting the ADP report, pointing out methodological differences and other limitations. Matthew Martin, senior U.S. economist at Oxford Economics, stated, "ADP data only covers private companies that rely on ADP to manage wages, therefore its national representativeness is limited. ADP employment data should be considered supplementary, not a replacement for the BLS employment survey." (Jinshi)
