Israel's National Counter-Terrorism Financing Bureau (NBCTF) recently released a list of 187 crypto addresses it claims are linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Blockchain analytics firm Elliptic indicates that these addresses have cumulatively received approximately $1.5 billion in USDT, but some wallets may belong to exchanges or shared services, making it impossible to fully confirm their direct links to the IRGC.
Tether has frozen 39 of these addresses, preventing the transfer of approximately $1.5 million. The IRGC has been repeatedly accused of using crypto assets to circumvent sanctions in recent years. Last week, the US Department of Justice seized approximately $600,000 in USDT held by an Iranian national, accusing him of developing a drone navigation system for the IRGC. In June of this year, the pro-Israel hacker group "Sparrow Predator" stole $90 million from the Iranian exchange Nobitex and destroyed the funds. The exchange has also been accused of collusion with the IRGC. (CoinDesk)
