Ethereum Developer Detained in Türkiye for Alleged “Abuse” of Ethereum

2025-08-11 00:24

According to Odaily Planet Daily, an Argentinian Ethereum developer known as "Fede's Intern" was detained by Turkish authorities in Izmir, Turkey, and accused of assisting others in "abusing" the Ethereum network. Following the incident, Fede's Intern revealed on social media that Turkish authorities alleged he facilitated the abuse of Ethereum, though the specifics remain unclear. Fede's Intern denied all allegations, emphasizing that he and his team are merely "infrastructure builders" and expressing a willingness to cooperate with authorities.

Turkish crypto commentator Cenk pointed out that detention based solely on such vague charges lacks legal basis. Turkey's existing commercial, consumer, and criminal codes are often used to deal with crypto cases, so the legal basis of this incident remains questionable.

Fede's Intern stated that the Turkish Interior Minister personally made the accusation. Despite being detained, Fede's Intern posted updates on social media, saying that he had been moved to a private room and provided with food, and that he planned to travel to Europe by private jet to continue working with his legal team to fight the charges.
