White House prepares to nominate interim Fed governor
15hours ago
Odaily Planet Daily reports that White House officials are preparing to have Trump nominate Stephen Miran, current Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), to serve on the Federal Reserve Board. Trump indicated on Wednesday that he might nominate an interim governor to fill the vacancy, rather than directly nominating a successor to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell. Trump has been a harsh critic of Powell's monetary policy. The aforementioned sources said that if Miran is nominated and confirmed by the Senate, he is expected to serve only until January of next year. Fed Board Governor Kugler announced last week that she would step down this Friday.
