Analyst: SparkKitty, a malicious virus that steals wallet mnemonics, has been detected, mainly targeting users in China and Southeast Asia
Odaily News Cybersecurity company Kaspersky has discovered a new malicious virus called SparkKitty, which infects applications on iOS and Android devices and steals all pictures in the user's photo album with the intention of finding screenshots of crypto wallet mnemonics. Kaspersky analysts said that these malicious applications are mainly cryptocurrency-themed, including a cryptocurrency information tracking application called "Coin" on the App Store, and a communication application SOEX with "cryptocurrency trading functions" that has been downloaded more than 10,000 times on Google Play. Researchers believe that SparkKitty has the same source as the malicious virus SparkCat discovered in January this year, and the two share similar features. The malicious virus activity has been going on since at least early 2024, mainly targeting users in Southeast Asia and China, but technically it can attack users in any region. Kaspersky has notified Google that the relevant applications have been removed from the app store. (Coin telegraph)
