Texas Congressman Brandon Gill faces scrutiny for late filing of $500,000 in Bitcoin transactions

2025-06-03 09:51

Odaily News U.S. Rep. Brandon Gill, a Republican from Texas, is facing scrutiny for delaying the disclosure of $500,000 worth of Bitcoin transactions. These transactions may violate the 45-day disclosure deadline set by the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act (STOCK Act). Gill disclosed two Bitcoin transactions on January 29 and February 27, each worth between $100,000 and $250,000, but both were weeks past the disclosure deadline.
It is worth noting that the January transaction occurred shortly after Trump signed the digital asset executive order, and the February transaction occurred on the eve of Trump's announcement of the "Strategic Bitcoin Reserve" plan. Gill also disclosed two Bitcoin transactions in May on time. Under the STOCK Act, delayed disclosure is usually fined only $200. Gill currently serves on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is the main investigative body of the House of Representatives. (Cointelegraph)
