UK judge issues anti-suit injunction against Craig Wright, citing legal 'difficulties' for Bitcoin community

2025-05-13 06:06

Odaily News British High Court Judge Edward Mellor issued a comprehensive injunction against Craig Wright, a computer scientist who calls himself "Satoshi Nakamoto", prohibiting him from continuing to file defamation lawsuits. In his ruling on May 12, Judge Mellor pointed out that Wright's repeated false statements and aggressive lawsuits have brought legal "difficulties" to individuals and developers in the Bitcoin community, and he has also attempted to "weaponize the legal system" to intimidate critics. His lawsuits are often based on fabricated evidence, forcing others to spend a lot of time and money on legal defense. Previously, in 2021, the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) sued Wright for long-term false claims of being the inventor of Bitcoin. In March last year, a British court ruled that he had nothing to do with the creation of Bitcoin, and in December he was given a one-year suspended sentence for contempt of court. The injunction marks the end of this nearly decade-long legal farce. Wright has also filed defamation lawsuits against Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and others. (Cointelegraph)
