Bloomberg: G7 may discuss threats related to North Korea-backed crypto attacks in June
2025-05-08 02:57

Odaily News Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter, that the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) may discuss the escalating threat posed by North Korean-backed cyberattacks and cryptocurrency thefts at the Canada summit next month. People familiar with the matter said that North Korea's use of cybercrime to fund the regime has raised "serious alarms" - White House officials have previously revealed that North Korea is financing its military weapons programs through cryptocurrency robberies.
According to blockchain analysis company Chainalysis, North Korean hackers stole $1.34 billion in 47 attacks in 2024, accounting for 61% of the total amount of cryptocurrency stolen worldwide that year. The company pointed out that hacker technology is becoming more and more sophisticated, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to track stolen funds.
