Former SafeMoon CEO denies charges, accuses founder on first day of trial
2025-05-08 00:12

Odaily News Former SafeMoon CEO Braden John Karony has claimed innocence in a social media post following the start of his fraud and money laundering trial in New York, accusing SafeMoon founder Kyle Nagy of being responsible for some of the fraud. Nagy reportedly fled to Russia after authorities filed charges.
On the first day of the trial, after jury selection, former SafeMoon CTO Thomas Smith appeared in court as a prosecution witness along with one of the victims. Karony had previously pleaded not guilty to multiple conspiracy charges, including securities fraud, wire fraud and money laundering, and had been free on $3 million bail since February 2024.
The case is expected to continue until May 26. Notably, crypto industry figures facing criminal charges typically rarely comment publicly until their cases are concluded.
Meanwhile, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York will sentence former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky, who pleaded guilty to two felony charges, on May 8, with prosecutors recommending a 20-year prison sentence. (Cointelegraph)
