Ethereum Foundation Executive Director: Vitalik's proposal is intended to start a dialogue, and community review has the right to veto
Odaily News Tomasz K. Stańczak, executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, posted on the X platform that with the recent changes in the leadership of the Ethereum Foundation, our goal is to allow Vitalik to spend more time on research and exploration rather than daily coordination or crisis response.
Every time Vitalik shares insight or communicates direction, it accelerates significant long-term breakthroughs. His recent posts on RISC-V and zkVM advance promising development avenues, while his post on privacy helps the community reunite around the core values of the Ethereum Foundation. I want to be clear that Vitalik’s proposals are always influential, but they are meant to start conversations and encourage progress in thorny areas of research. Community review may significantly modify a proposal or even reject it. We want the same freedom for other researchers who are not afraid to ask difficult questions and propose alternatives, such as @drakefjustin and @dankrad. Ethereum researchers often ask readers to recognize the exploratory nature of their posts and proposals. Focus remains critical. Within EF, we will shift most of our research efforts to short-term goals, aiming to solve user experience and scalability challenges in the next two protocol upgrades. We are focusing on L1 scaling, L2 scaling support, and major UX improvements (including interoperability) in the Pectra, Fusaka, and Glamsterdam upgrades. At the same time, we are exploring how to complete projects that are currently expected to be completed in three to five years. Papers from our top researchers help some projects deliver in a year or two through initiatives such as next generation execution and consensus layers.
