US, UK, Australia impose sanctions on Zservers that hosted LockBit ransomware
Odaily News Authorities in the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom have imposed sanctions on Russian bulletproof hosting provider Zservers for allegedly providing services to the LockBit crypto-ransomware gang.
The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the UK Foreign Office said on February 11 that the sanctions include freezing the assets of Zservers and its British front company XHOST Internet Solutions LP, as well as freezing the assets and banning the exit of six individuals.
The U.S. Treasury Department said that bulletproof hosting providers sell a range of tools that can mask location, identity, and online activities. Bradley Smith, the department's acting undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said cybercriminals rely on third-party network service providers such as Zservers to "launch attacks on U.S. and international critical infrastructure."
