Bitcoin mining company Digihost plans to transform Alabama mine into HPC and AI data center
Odaily News Digihost, a Nasdaq- and TSX Venture Exchange-listed bitcoin mining company, has launched a new subsidiary dedicated to building data centers for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) applications.
The company announced Monday that its newly formed subsidiary, US Data Centers Inc., will be responsible for transforming its existing data center in Columbiana, Alabama, into a Tier 3 certified facility. Digihost acquired the asset in 2022. The Alabama facility will be developed in two phases with a total capacity of 55 megawatts (MW). The first phase will deliver 22 MW by the second quarter of 2026 and is expected to cost $176 million. The second phase will add 33 MW by early 2027 at an estimated cost of $264 million.
Digihost plans to finance the $440 million project primarily through debt, backed by future revenues from the completed plant, although the amount is about four times Digihost’s current market value. Last week, the company raised $6.6 million in an “oversubscribed” private placement. (TheMinerMag)
