Former deputy director of Beijing Financial Bureau suspected of money laundering with Bitcoin, sentenced to 11 years in prison
Odaily News Hao Gang, former deputy director of the Beijing Financial Bureau, was involved in Bitcoin money laundering. In addition, he also assisted a senior executive of a leading Bitcoin mining company in lifting border control and received bribes of up to tens of millions of yuan.
On February 6, 2025, the Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court publicly pronounced the verdict on Hao Gang's bribery and money laundering case in accordance with the law, sentencing the defendant Hao Gang to eight years in prison for bribery and a fine of RMB 500,000; and four years in prison for money laundering and a fine of RMB 800,000. The court decided to execute a sentence of eleven years in prison and a fine of RMB 1.3 million. The illegal gains and interest from his bribery were recovered, confiscated, and turned over to the state treasury.
