OpenAI's text-to-video tool Sora has been leaked to artists and early testers
2024-11-27 01:28
Odaily News A group of artists and early testers of OpenAI's unreleased text-to-video tool Sora have leaked access to the new model in protest after saying the tool was being used for "unpaid R&D." The group released what appears to be a front-end version of Sora to AI development platform HuggingFace on November 26, allowing anyone to create with the tool. However, OpenAI has reportedly since stepped in and shut it down. The leak was carried out by a group of artists and beta testers working under the username "PR-Puppets." "We were given access to Sora and committed to becoming early testers, red teamers, and creative partners. However, we believe we were lured into an 'art wash' to tell the world that Sora is a useful tool for artists," the group said. According to an open letter released alongside the Sora leak, the group claims that "hundreds of artists" provided unpaid labor through bug testing, feedback, and experimental work, only to find themselves excluded from any compensation or recognition from OpenAI. The artists claim that OpenAI (now privately valued at $157 billion) unfairly prevents artists and contributors from being paid for testing, feedback, and development. (Cointelegraph)
