Bloomberg: Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission is considering allowing Ethereum spot ETF issuers to add pledge services
2024-05-23 11:20
Odaily News Hong Kong is considering allowing staking for ETFs that invest directly in Ethereum. Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission is in discussions with Ethereum ETF issuers about offering staking services through licensed platforms, after receiving proposals in the past few weeks, according to people familiar with the matter. The discussions are ongoing and there is no clear timeline for a decision, the person said. A spokesman for the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment. If approved, staking returns could boost demand for Hong Kong’s cryptocurrency spot ETFs, which have faced tepid demand since their launch in April. It could also put Hong Kong, an Asian financial hub, ahead of the United States, which is expected to approve an Ethereum spot ETF that does not include staking capabilities. (Bloomberg)
