U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit stays SBF’s appeal to end pretrial detention

2023-09-19 16:22
Odaily News On Tuesday, local time, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit postponed a decision on SBF’s appeal to end pretrial detention on federal fraud charges. There are still two weeks before SBF’s trial begins. A panel of judges on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said they would consider the arguments from both sides after solicitation. SBF lawyers have argued that SBF cannot adequately prepare its defense in prison. If the appeal is dismissed, SBF is unlikely to be given a chance to be released from prison before the trial begins on October 3. (CoinDesk) Earlier news, last week, US federal judge Lewis Kaplan rejected SBF’s repeated motions for pretrial release. SBF had previously been free on bail, but a Southern District of New York judge revoked his bail last month after finding he had tried to tamper with witnesses at least twice.
