zkSync Lianchuang: Using L1 Fork as the final court, establishing a system of on-chain court layering.
Odaily news: zkSync co-founder Alex G proposed a new governance solution that utilizes L1 Fork as the final court of appeal. This solution aims to establish an on-chain court hierarchical system similar to real-world judicial institutions and provide it with a standard ERC interface.
Specifically, each protocol has its own governance and defines normal and emergency upgrade mechanisms. The protocol must also specify a special contract as the instance for appeals. For emergency upgrades, there must be an appeal period during which anyone can challenge the decision to a higher court and they must pay a predetermined bail. The court can then cancel the emergency upgrade (without taking any other action). Different courts will have different members, prices, and reputations in a fully decentralized manner. Each court must also specify a higher court to which appeals can be made until reaching the highest court of Ethereum. The decision of this smart contract can only be determined by the L1 soft fork.
"Our idea is to form social consensus on this concept and deploy a 'standard' court instance that has a very high cost of usage, and only truly special cases would be submitted to it. This may be worth the attention of the entire Ethereum Layer-0 (social consensus), such as errors in Uniswap, major L2, and DeFi protocols with systemic risks," Alex G added. He further emphasized that the most important function of this system is to protect protocols from external political interference and serve as a powerful deterrent mechanism. zkSync is keen to support such research.
