The network is expected to maintain the existing system for about 18 minutes first, then switch to Votor after staked SOL reaches 82% of the validator set.
Another component of Alpenglow, Rotor, will adjust how new blocks are distributed among validators, but no activation date has yet been announced. This upgrade includes only Votor, and Solana will temporarily focus on replacing the consensus mechanism. (Bitcoin.com News)
Aerodrome and Velodrome Merger to Launch on October 21, Aero Announces Token Conversion Terms
Odaily: Aero announced the token conversion terms and timetable for the merger of Aerodrome and Velodrome. The merger will launch at 20:00 US Eastern Time on October 21, at which point token emissions from the two legacy platforms will stop. Existing AERO can be converted 1:1 into new AERO, and each VELO can be converted into about 0.044 AERO, a ratio that applies to both circulating tokens and locked tokens. The VELO conversion ratio depends on supply at launch, with Aerodrome holders receiving 94.5% of the new supply and Velodrome holders receiving 5.5%.
Existing veAERO and veVELO positions will be converted into new sAERO positions, with the remaining lock time extended and rounded up to full weeks, and permanent locks converted into maximum-duration stakes. Tokens will not be converted automatically; self-custodied assets must be handled through the Aerodrome or Velodrome upgrade portal, and users must first claim rewards and rebase and clear active votes. The new model will replace the original weekly voting cycle with real-time allocation, allowing sAERO holders to direct rewards directly to pools and earn yield as exchange revenue accumulates, with a 47-hour cooldown period initially for allocation adjustments. The merger was announced in November 2025, and developer Dromos Labs originally planned to complete it in Q2 2026.
