To be compatible with the London upgrade, node operators will need to upgrade the version of the client they are running. Below is a list of client versions that support the Ethereum mainnet London upgrade. These versions are different from previous versions that supported the London upgrade on testnet. Previous versions did not support the London upgrade of the mainnet. 1) Client: go-ethereum (Geth)

2): Client: Nethermind

Version number: 1.10.77

3) Client: Erigon (formerly TurboGeth)

The OpenEthereum team is working with Erigon to provide a smooth migration path to the Erigon client for all its users, more information can be found here: https://medium.com/openethereum/gnosis-joins-erigon-formerly-turbo-geth -to-release-next-gen-ethereum-client-c6708dd06dd

Note to miners: The London upgrade will change the way target gas caps are handled on the network, which we will detail below in the "What do I need to do as a miner?" section below. EIPs included in the London upgrade

EIP-3198: BASEFEE opcode;

EIP-3198: BASEFEE opcode;

EIP-3529: Reduce gas refunds;

EIP-3541: Reject new contracts starting with 0xEF bytecode

EIP-3554: Postponing the Difficulty Bomb to December 1, 2021 The Ethereum Cat Herders team has published a blog post detailing the details of these EIPs: https://medium.com/ethereum-cat-herders/london- upgrade-overview-8eccb0041b41

It's worth noting that EIP-1559, while backward compatible with the current transaction format, introduces changes to block headers, adds new transaction types, provides a new JSON RPC endpoint, and changes client behavior in several ways ( Including mining, trading pools, etc.). It is strongly recommended that relevant projects familiarize themselves with this EIP. A more extensive list of resources related to EIP-1559 can be found here: https://hackmd.io/@timbeiko/1559-resources

As an Ethereum user or ETH holder, do I need to do anything?

common problem

>>As an Ethereum user or ETH holder, do I need to do anything?

If you use an exchange (such as Coinbase, Kraken, or Binance), a web wallet service (such as Metamask, MyCrypto, or MyEtherWallet), a mobile wallet service (such as Coinbase wallet, Status.im, or Trust Wallet), or use A hardware wallet (like a Ledger, Trezor, or KeepKey), you don't need to do anything unless your exchange or wallet provider tells you to take extra steps. If you run your own

For Ethereum nodes, you need to upgrade your node. For details, please refer to the "What do I need to do as a non-mining node operator?" section below.

>>What do I need to do as an operator of a non-mining node?

Download the latest version of the Ethereum client, see above.

>>What do I need to do as a miner?

First, download the latest version of the Ethereum client, see above. You will then need to manually change your gas cap target to double what it is currently. This is because, once the London upgrade goes live, the block size will double, and EIP-1559 will maintain block capacity usage at ~50%. This is possible via JSON-RPC on all clients that offer mainnet-compatible mining, without restarting your node.

Note: Nethermind, Erigon, and EthereumJS do not yet support mining on the Ethereum mainnet.

After the community agrees on what changes should be included in the upgrade, changes to the protocol will be written into individual Ethereum clients such as Geth, Erigon, Besu, and Nethermind, among others. Protocol changes are activated at specific block numbers. Any nodes not upgraded to the new ruleset will be abandoned on the old chain, and the previous rules will continue to exist on the old chain.

>>Why is this upgrade named "London"?

After the Ethereum "Istanbul" upgrade, we have no other names for the other planned network upgrades. Someone suggested naming the upgrade after the city where the Devcon was held, and we did! London was the venue for Devcon 1, and before that we had Devcon 0 in Berlin.
