India demands GitHub to take down the code repository of Jack Dorsey's Bitcoin-related messaging app Bitchat
Odaily Planet Daily News: India's cybercrime agency has requested GitHub to remove code repositories related to Bitchat. Bitchat is an offline messaging application launched by Jack Dorsey, featuring a decentralized, registration-free design. Indian authorities claim that Bitchat's design impedes lawful surveillance and investigations. Delhi protesters used the app and similar Bluetooth mesh applications to coordinate actions during the exam scam protests, circumventing multiple internet disruptions. It is unclear whether GitHub will comply with the takedown request within the three-hour deadline. As of Friday, Bitchat remains available on major app stores, and open-source code can typically be mirrored and preserved beyond a single platform. (CoinDesk)
