Iran: Future Hormuz Navigation to Be Determined by Iran-Oman Consultation
Odaily Planet Daily News, July 12 – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei today (July 12) briefed on Iranian Foreign Minister’s recent visit to Oman and the talks held. The foreign ministers of Iran and Oman held talks in Muscat, Oman on July 11. The two sides discussed the coordination mechanism for navigation and traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz, with legal and technical delegations from both countries participating. Baghaei stated that the two sides focused on exchanging views on issues such as ensuring the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, respecting the sovereign rights of both countries, and the application of international law. They also discussed relevant content of Article 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The Iranian side emphasized that future arrangements for navigation management in the Strait of Hormuz should be formulated through consultations between Iran and Oman, and should fully consider the impact of military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran over the past few months, and their consequences on the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Baghaei said that Iran and Oman have agreed to continue consultations at political, legal, and technical levels to reach a common understanding on the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
