Samsung and SK Hynix Reportedly Lead Push for Substrate Price Cuts
According to the Korea Printed Circuit Board & Semiconductor Packaging Association (KPCA), Samsung and SK Hynix, envious of upstream substrate makers frequently raising prices due to market supply shortages, are planning to demand price cuts. In recent price negotiations with substrate suppliers, they are requesting lower quotations, intending to retract the average price increase of approximately 3% to 4% that was set for the first quarter of this year.
It is understood that the reason Samsung and SK Hynix are advocating for lower quotations is that, earlier this year, due to rising raw material costs such as gold and copper, they had accepted a price increase of about 3% to 4% from substrate manufacturers. However, as fluctuations in raw material prices have recently stabilized and the factors driving the price increases have subsided, they believe that quotations for the second half of the year should also return to the levels seen before the price hikes.
