CZ: If Satoshi's Addresses Remain Dormant Long After Quantum Upgrade, Relevant BTC Should Be Frozen
Odaily Planet Daily News CZ stated in an exclusive interview with Galaxy Research Director Alex Thorn on the Galaxy Brains podcast that quantum computing is not an unsolvable problem for Bitcoin. The community can address the related risks by upgrading to a quantum-resistant cryptography solution.
Regarding the approximately 1 million BTC held by Satoshi Nakamoto, CZ believes that "doing nothing" is not an ideal solution. He suggested that if Bitcoin completes a quantum-resistant upgrade in the future, the community could provide a 6 to 12-month transition period. If the relevant addresses still do not initiate any transactions during this period, these addresses should be frozen under the new protocol, and the associated BTC should be removed from circulation.
CZ stated that if no action is taken, this portion of BTC could eventually be obtained by the first person to use quantum computing to crack the relevant addresses, which would not be a fair distribution method. However, he emphasized that the final decision on how to handle this should still be made by the Bitcoin community through voting or other consensus mechanisms.
