US and Iran reportedly finalizing 14-point framework memorandum, negotiations could resume in Islamabad as early as next week

2026-05-06 15:15

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, sources indicate that Iran and the U.S. are working through mediators to finalize a one-page memorandum of understanding containing 14 points, establishing a framework for a month-long negotiation aimed at ending the conflict. These discussion points will form the core of the next round of talks, which could resume in Islamabad as early as next week. Sources also stated that Iran has expressed willingness to discuss its nuclear program, signaling a softening of its previous stance. Unresolved issues, including the duration of Iran's suspension of uranium enrichment activities, whether high-enriched uranium will be shipped out of the country, and Iran's insistence on maintaining a permanent supervisory role in the Strait of Hormuz, are expected to complicate the final negotiations. Additionally, the timing and scope of sanctions relief could also become obstacles to the talks. A spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry said that Iran is reviewing the U.S. proposal and will convey its position to the U.S. through Pakistani mediators after completing its assessment.
