Shipping Data: Majority of Vessels Passing Through Hormuz Use Iran's Mandatory Route

Odaily News According to data from shipping analysis firm Lloyd's Register, recently, most cargo ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz have used the route mandated by Iran, which hugs the coastline closely. This is part of Iran's plan to control the waterway. Since April 13th, approximately 15 out of the 27 large commercial vessels tracked by the firm have used this route; no vessels have used non-Iranian mainstream shipping lanes. Other ships have been traveling to and from Iran's Bandar Abbas port, which is directly located on the strait. The data also shows that since April, 81% of the vessels crossing the strait have been linked to Iran. The oil tanker RHN, which is under US sanctions, entered the Persian Gulf on Wednesday and was still sailing near the Iranian coast on Thursday, with no destination listed. A Lloyd's analyst stated: "Vessels are still passing through daily, with the majority linked to Iran." (Jin10)
