Cybersecurity Engineer Accused of Stealing Funds from Gambling Website, Police in Two Regions Seize 183 Bitcoins
Odaily News: Cybersecurity engineer Li Dong was prosecuted by the Changge City Procuratorate in Henan Province for theft and infringement of citizens' personal information. He is accused of exploiting program vulnerabilities to steal personal information of over 1.84 million Chinese citizens from the overseas gambling website "Kaiyun Sports," and using technical means to steal agent commission funds totaling over 35.5 million yuan by targeting high-commission agent accounts.
Previously, police in Zhangjiajie, Hunan, and Changge, Henan, filed cases against Li Dong on suspicion of operating a gambling establishment. Zhangjiajie police seized 103 of his bitcoins, which were liquidated for over 49.61 million yuan. Henan police seized 80 of his bitcoins, with a market value exceeding 40 million yuan. The case is currently being tried in the Changge City Court. The defense lawyer entered a plea of not guilty, and the court will schedule another hearing at a later date. (The Paper)
