OpenAI President Brockman: AI "deceleration" should focus on frontier models

Theo Odaily, OpenAI President and co-founder Greg Brockman stated in a podcast that if the pace of AI development is to be slowed, the scope should mainly be limited to frontier AI companies developing the most powerful models, and should not affect open-source models and personal hobby projects. He said that the so-called "controlling the pace of development" mainly targets large supercomputers that require hundreds of billions of dollars in capital investment. Brockman also stated that after the recent Hugging Face hacking incident, OpenAI has slowed down the frequency of AI model training and significantly adjusted its internal security processes. He also advocates managing the long-term development of AI through global coordination and international treaties, believing that AI may in the future transcend the scope of individuals, enterprises, and even individual nations.
