With SHRINCS, Bitcoin throughput is approximately 3 TPS; Blockstream submits quantum-resistance upgrade proposal

Odaily Planet Daily News: Blockstream has submitted a Bitcoin Improvement Proposal with specific upgrade recommendations for its post-quantum signature scheme, SHRINCS. SHRINCS has completed production-environment testing on Blockstream's Liquid sidechain. Its minimum signature size is 548 bytes, approximately nine times larger than Bitcoin's existing 64-byte Schnorr signature, but smaller than NIST-approved schemes such as SPHINCS+. According to Blockstream research, if SHRINCS were adopted, Bitcoin throughput could be maintained at approximately 3 TPS, close to current levels. If a NIST-approved scheme were adopted, throughput could drop to between 0.36 and 0.5 TPS.
