美国财政部突发“救市”,黄金短线暴涨70美元
The U.S. Treasury issued a sudden "market rescue" signal, sending gold surging over $70 in the short term.
Odaily News: Faced with U.S. Treasury yields soaring to multi-year highs, the U.S. Treasury sent a strong signal on Wednesday by announcing an increase in the buyback ceiling for long-term Treasury bonds to at least $4 billion, causing the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield to plummet. Notably, this move came after such bond yields reached their highest levels in years.
Treasury Secretary Bessent launched the buyback program last year as part of the department's "large toolkit that can be deployed when necessary" to address turmoil in the Treasury market. Following the announcement, gold surged more than $70 in the short term, the U.S. dollar index touched the 99 mark for the first time since June this year, and Treasury yields plunged, with the benchmark 10-year yield falling to around 4.651%.
The U.S. Treasury also noted in the announcement that it will provide more information on the scale of future buybacks at the next quarterly refunding meeting scheduled for November 4, 2026. The expansion of the buyback operation reflects the Treasury's desire to provide stronger liquidity support for the long-term nominal Treasury market. The department will release updated interim Treasury buyback arrangements later.
