Poll: US-Iran conflict deemed "not worth the cost," Trump approval rating drops to 36%

2026-07-06 05:56

According to Odaily, the latest Focaldata poll indicates that a majority of American voters believe the Trump administration's military actions in Iran were "not worth the cost." The survey was conducted from June 26 to 30, covering 1,795 registered voters, with a margin of error of ±2.7%.

Data shows that 58% of respondents believe the current costs of this conflict are not worth it. Meanwhile, 44% of voters think the conflict has left the U.S. in a weaker position in its relationship with Iran, while only 31% believe the U.S. has gained an advantage as a result.

Regarding the so-called "Memorandum of Understanding" reached between Washington and Tehran, the poll reveals widespread skepticism among voters. Approximately 66% of respondents believe the agreement has done little to improve peace and stability in the Middle East, and may even exacerbate instability or increase the risk of conflict; only about 20% believe it contributes to achieving peace.

The poll shows that only 36% of voters approve of Trump's job performance, a decrease of 2 percentage points from the previous month. Among them, support from independent voters fell to 21%, a significant drop of 8 percentage points month-over-month.

Ahead of the upcoming November 2026 midterm elections, this trend puts pressure on the Republican Party. In the survey, 44% of respondents said they would support Democratic candidates in congressional elections, six percentage points higher than the 38% who would support Republicans; a month earlier, the Democratic lead was four percentage points.
