Morningstar: Potential Capital Expenditure Uncertainty for Samsung and SK Hynix Could Weigh on Their Stock Prices
Odaily News: Morningstar analyst Jing Jie Yu stated that market uncertainty regarding the potential capital expenditures of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix may be putting pressure on their stock prices. He noted that the total capital expenditure of these two companies over the next ten years could amount to approximately 2,000 trillion Korean won, nearly double Morningstar's current forecast. This could include SK Hynix's plan to invest in AI data centers, with its committed investment in the Yongin wafer cluster already estimated at 600 trillion Korean won.
The analyst pointed out that if SK Hynix's commitment to investing in AI data centers is a separate undertaking from its potential capital expenditure plan, memory chip manufacturers would face a clear risk of supply oversupply, as market demand typically slows when the capital expenditure cycle enters its final phase.
