Analysis: Market Cap Share of S&P 500 Semiconductor Sector Rises to 18.8%, Hitting a Record High
According to Odaily, The Kobeissi Letter released a data analysis on X platform, showing that the weight of the semiconductor sector in the US stock market continues to rise, currently accounting for approximately 18.8% of the total market capitalization of the S&P 500, reaching an all-time high. This figure has more than tripled since 2022, while the semiconductor index SOX has accumulated a gain of about 546% over the same period, highlighting the sector's significant leading position in the current technology cycle.
From a historical perspective, the current weight of semiconductors in the S&P 500 has exceeded more than half of the peak level seen during the 2000 internet bubble era, with a clear structural upward shift. The US equity market is increasingly concentrating around AI and the semiconductor supply chain, and the influence of technology stocks on the overall index has reached historically extreme levels.
