Investors flee AI tech stocks as global stock markets decline
Odaily News On Friday, global stock markets fell as investors pulled out of AI technology stocks. Japan's tech-heavy Nikkei 225 index fell more than 5% at one point during the session. A Tokyo-based brokerage source said it was one of the worst trading days for the Tokyo market in a long time, with many investors who had been making aggressive tech and AI bets using Japanese tech stocks now rapidly exiting.
U.S. stock index futures indicated a potentially lower open on Wall Street. Europe's STOXX 600 futures pointed to a 0.6% decline at the open. Richard Yetsenga, Chief Economist and Head of Research at ANZ, commented that this sell-off has exposed the unsettling degree to which numerous markets and a significant amount of economic activity have become dependent on the AI boom.
