Samsung Electronics plans to build a new DRAM factory in Giheung, with a monthly production capacity estimated at 100,000 wafers. Odaily reported that Citrini analyst jukan said on the X platform that Samsung Electronics plans to build a new DRAM wafer factory on its Giheung campus, converting the site originally intended for an R&D center into a memory production facility. The facility's monthly production capacity is expected to be approximately 100,000 wafers, with a total investment estimated at tens of trillions of Korean won. Samsung Electronics has formed an internal team to advance the construction of the new wafer factory, with initial construction potentially starting as early as the third quarter. Counterpoint Research expects that, driven by rising product prices, global DRAM market revenue will grow from $150 billion this year to as high as $210 billion. Samsung Electronics is also installing a new production line with a monthly capacity of 100,000 wafers at its Pyeongtaek P4 plant, which can produce DRAM for sixth-generation HBM, namely HBM4. The company also plans to build a wafer factory in the next-generation semiconductor cluster in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, with a target for initial production in 2029. Additionally, the company is advancing the construction of two advanced semiconductor wafer factories in the Gwangju semiconductor cluster in South Jeolla Province, with a total investment of 400 trillion Korean won.
