Morningstar: Uncertainty over Samsung and SK Hynix potential capital expenditure may weigh on their stock prices
Odaily Odaily Planet Daily News Morningstar analyst Jing Jie Yu stated that market uncertainty regarding the potential capital expenditure of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix may be putting pressure on their stock prices. He pointed out that the combined capital expenditure of these two companies over the next ten years could reach approximately 2000 trillion won, nearly double Morningstar's current forecast. This may include SK Hynix's plan to invest in AI data centers, with its committed investment in the Yongin wafer cluster already expected to reach 600 trillion won.
The analyst noted that if SK Hynix's commitment to investing in AI data centers and its potential capital expenditure plan are two separate investments, memory chip manufacturers would face a clear risk of oversupply, as market demand typically slows down when the capital expenditure cycle enters its final phase.
